Elevate 2018

Last week Smartlife exhibited at Elevate 2018.  The expo was co-located with Elite Sports and COPA, all of which featured some fantastic products and services for the sports and fitness industry.

We especially enjoyed meeting Aspire Instructability who help to engage disabled people in the fitness industry as gym instructors and gym users.  The aim is to support disabled people into a fitness career where they can encourage other disabled people to access leisure facilities and enjoy and active lifestyle.  I even took part in Aspire's inclusive dance class demonstration in conjunction with SOSA Fitness.  My old dance teacher, Mrs Sutcliffe, would be so proud!

We were really interested in SwimAR by The Imagination Factory who have developed a holographic heads up display for swimmers.  The device attaches to a regular pair of goggles and provides real-time performance data (e.g. lap time, split time, distance) from an accelerometer discreetly incorporated into the design.  Imagine if you could also display your heart rate from a Smartlife-powered swim suit too...

We enjoyed checking our blood glucose and cholesterol levels with Medichecks who provide blood-based health check services through the post or via corporate employee wellness programmes.  It's easy to imagine a near future where people can just as easily keep tabs on their heart health with a self-administered ECG test, simply by wearing a comfortable vest powered by technology just like ours.

We had the most fun checking out our body composition at the Tanita stand.  As highly competitive recreational athletes, the results caused a bit of a stir in the team.  How fabulous to find out that Tanita's office is just around the corner from Smartlife HQ in Manchester.  We are looking forward to a catch up over a coffee at our local Hampton & Vouis coffee shop very soon.

The highlight of the show was winning a gold innovation award for best start up AND two silver awards for best health & wellness innovation and best innovation for human performance.  For me, briefly meeting performance nutritionist Ben Coomber as of the judges was a personal highlight, having followed his brilliant work for a number of years.
